I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times Tryna and I have fallen out in the past decade. 2 of those have been this week!
Over the past 6 weeks preparations have taken all our effort, energy and focus. And now school’s out, the kids are commanding a chunk of time too. We’re a bit frayed around the edges and super tired. Don’t worry we’re not looking for sympathy – just trying to paint an honest picture. It’s easy to post the smiling, sunny snapshots, not so easy to talk about the other bits.
This isn’t like moving house…it’s way more complicated. This is packing some of your life (but not all), putting some things on hold (but not all). Decisions and choices on every subject have to be taken at every turn. And it’s laborious!
There’s other stuff too. It’s a lot of change for the kids to get their heads around. We’ve seen a definite increase in bad dreams, sore tummies, bickering and a few moments of realisation for them – where you see them quietly contemplating the fact that they will miss people, things or events. It was quite a moment when they realised they wouldn’t actually be graduating to the Seahorse class with their friends, and we are yet to address their birthday party arrangements.
We’re reminding ourselves it will all be worth it. And after the storm comes the calm and quality time.
Open road, new experiences, French wine, Belgium chocolates, German beer and Luxem-burgers?
Looking forward to a simpler time of our lives, as a family. Not just trying to occupy the kids, but growing with them.
Here’s to getting it sorted and getting out of here.
